Maryann Donovan, PhD, MPH

Maryann Donovan, PhD, MPH is the Associate Director for Research Services and Advancement at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Donovan completed an MPH in Environmental Sciences from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health in 1982 and a PhD at Columbia University in the Department of Human Genetics and Development in 1986. In 1989, she joined the Pathology Department at the University of Pittsburgh as a molecular and cellular biologist, where she established her research laboratory to study the regulation of coagulation and fibrinolytic pathways in pathobiology, including tumor metastasis. As part of these studies, she examined the role of estrogen on expression of these genes. In addition, Dr. Donovan also co-directed the first molecular diagnostic lab at the University of Pittsburgh/University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she developed and validated assays for cancer diagnosis. In 1998 she joined a University of Pittsburgh spin out company for four years, becoming VP for Scientific Development. She returned to the University of Pittsburgh and UPCI in 2003. In addition to her senior administrative role with UPCI, Dr. Donovan has worked with Dr. Davis and the Center for Environmental Oncology since its inception in 2004.
