Suggestions for Increasing Fruit & Vegetable Intake

  • Try one new fruit or vegetable each week
  • Double normal serving size for vegetables
  • Eat fruit on cereal (not just bananas but also apples, grapes, berries, peaches & mandarin oranges)
  • Eat fruit as a snack
  • Eat dried fruit instead of candy
  • Drink fruit or vegetable juice instead of soft drinks
  • Drink fruit smoothies or shakes made from fruit & ice, fruit & milk, or fruit & ice cream
  • Have fruit salad for dessert (layer a fruit parfait with yogurt, nuts, & oatmeal)
  • Take raw vegetable platters to parties (include other vegetables besides celery & carrot sticks)
  • Add vegetables to favorite entrees (tacos, spaghetti, lasagna, pizza)
  • Make frozen fruit kabobs for snacks
  • Eat vegetarian meals more often

Remember, raw fruits & vegetables often have the most nutritional value!

Always wash your fruits & vegetables & buy organic when possible.
